[ 27-06-2014 ]
Burgas Free Zone took part in the two-day national meeting "Green intermodal transport - Challenges and intentions”, held on 25-26 June 2014 at the Grand Hotel Primoretz,  Bourgas. The meeting was organized as part of the GIFT (Green Intermodal Freight Transport). The main objective of the GIFT project is to outline, analyze and assess the condition of the transport sector in Southeast Europe and to propose new policies and strategies in terms of infrastructure, processes, resources, information and communication tools, legislation, standards and harmonization / standardization, through which to promote innovative intermodal freight transport corridors.
To lighten the burden on the roads, it is necessary to combine different modes of transport, which will reduce congestion and negative impacts on the environment, improving safety, reducing the economic impact, in addition to meet the modern requirements for reliability , speed and safety. Over the past two decades, the European Union supports this concept by encouraging the development of intermodality as a tool for safe and environmentally friendly approach to freight.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the target groups for the project, namely port authorities, freight forwarders, logistics and transport companies, associations, chambers of commerce and industry associations, combined transport operators, operators of rail and road transport operators of intermodal terminals and operators of inland transport.
